Continuing education credit in Louisiana is based on LSLBC-approved providers/courses. The Board maintains an official Continuing Education Providers' List and resources on its website.

How many hours are required?
Residential Building Contractors must complete a minimum of six (6) hours annually through a Board-approved provider.
Is there an exemption?
If a Residential Building Contractor also holds a valid, current commercial license in one of the major classifications (Building Construction; Highway, Street & Bridge; Heavy Construction; or Municipal & Public Works), the six-hour requirement is considered met/exempt.
Do I need to keep proof of completion?
Yes. Residential Building Contractors must keep certificates of completion for five (5) years and provide them to the Board upon request.
Do you report my completion to the Board?
Louisiana emphasizes maintaining your completion certificate and making it available if requested. We recommend saving your certificate immediately after finishing your course.
When do Louisiana contractor licenses renew?
Renewal is based on your license expiration date. The Board states:
• Renewal notices are sent ~60 days and again ~15 days before expiration.
• You cannot renew until 60 days prior to expiration.
• You may renew for a 1-, 2-, or 3-year period (when eligible).
